I was introduced to 'underground dance music' at the age of 13 years by my older sister Claire. Tapes from the likes of Sasha, Digweed, Carl Cox, Frankie Knuckles and Danny Rampling quickly found there way into my bedroom and stored in my cassette player.
It wasn't until I was 19 years old that I decided to use my student loan wisely and invest into a pair of turntables. My break came whilst working in a bar in Manchester. After much pestering of the promoter I was given the opportunity to play to a packed room full of drunk and energetic students. What followed was a residency in two of south Manchester's most popular venues, playing to a large audience of party goers 3 times a week.
A move to London in 2005 and a new opportunity arose Djing for internet based dance music station SNS Radio. Djing on a Friday night slot, it was hear that I was able to showcase my passion for house music whilst learning the basics of presenting a fun and informative radio show to a wide cross section of listeners.
At present im a DJ for London's number one underground house music station House FM. My show 'Tommy Rutherford presents' attempts to cover all corners of house music, intertwined with competitions and random interaction/chat with listeners.
When im not on radio you can find me Djing in various bars and clubs in and around London playing that house music sound. I have two bar residencies in Clapham south west London where I reside. Other venue experience include, Pacha, Babalou, The Whitehouse, SO.UK, Bierodrome, Inigo and Revolution bar.
